The Misix Movie Quality Index soared 8.86 points this weekend to 64.65 on the strength of two new releases and one newcomer to the top 10. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (66.97) and Prometheus (69.25) were both well received by audiences. Moonrise Kingdom (84.76) did not open this week, but is new to the top 10 and was the highest rated movie in the top 10 for the week. Financially, Kristen Stewart seems to be able to hold her own without Robert Pattinson, but she does not rate as high without him. Snow White and the Huntsman (58.74) continues to garner tepid ratings along with The Dictator (60.83). Battleship (47.14) and What To Expect When You’re Expecting (41.56) continued to weigh down the overall index and for the fourth week in a row, What To Expect When You’re Expecting was the anchor of the week. The Avengers (80.82), The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (71.06) and Men In Black III (65.32) had strong weeks and rounded out a very impressive set of movies for the weekend. The revenue-adjusted index increased 4.93 points to 66.77 on the strength of the two opening movies as well as an overall solid movie selection. There were a lot of solid choices at the theaters this weekend, so odds are if you were at the cinema, you picked a good one.
